Last night was the first night that I felt really good on the mat since I´ve been here. It seem slike something will always happen, get injured or get sick whick makes training shitty.
Yesterday morning I met up with my boy Chris Brown to do some private training. We did a few rounds of pads, sprawls and clinches. He then showed me some great things for ground in pound in the cage and man thw simple things make a huge difference.
After that we went for lunch and then down to the beach. This has been what our days have been consisting of. Night training starts at 7:30 so we also squeeze in a nap and get all rested up for two half hours of training in the heat.
For the last two weeks Ive been strugling with a neck injury so training has really sucked. But last night it didn´t bother me so much. We worked a really nice sweep taught by this Japanese guy that I met about three years ago and still don´t know his name.

This photo was taken three years ago at Dede´s old gym.
I started my training with a young purple belt that was alot stronger then he looked. He surprised me righ tof the bat by passing my guard and getting side control. I eventally put him in my guard and swept him and catching him with a choke.
My next match is with a friend named Victor. He a good browm brown belt that should be black but for some reason he still weras the brown. He stared off wanting to kick my ass good, we were all over the place. Finally I got him under control and racked up several points and the time ran out.
My third match would be with another brown that is Super Strong!!! and he also want to kick some ass. He starded off passing my guard and mountign me, FUCK!! I got him in half guard and attached a Kimur which allowed me to sweep him and almost tappin ghim with a straight arm lock. We got inot some kind of scramble and he landed in my triangle where a finished him with the arm triangle.
My fourth match is with Raph who is also a purple belt. With him I was very tired because all these matches are back to back. With him I pulled guard swept him took side control, took his back, back to side control. I had in him in a really tight kimura but he just wouldn´t tap so I ended the match with a nice sweep to side control.
After all this I had to start refusing fights I was jsut to tired. And Rodney I will make another post and tell you hoe the weekend went.
Tchau!!!
This week the Worlds have started and my week of training was good. Trained with mostly blacks and of course my boy Luiz. My Home girl Sheena has been here training with me at Nova Uniao and has been loving it.
Sheena moved in with me in my little apartment and has volunteered to be my BITCH!!
She's been making fruit platters and coffee every morning and keeping the place clean. I have a live in Made, I've always wanted one of those. LOL!!!
So to start the week of fights Sheena entered the Faixa Azul category(blue Belt). And man it was great her first World Championships and let me tell you she held her own. She started out by pulling half guard and working for the sweep. We worked on some of the Details that week and some of the Black belts were helping her out also.
She worked the sweep were the both of them came to the knees so she missed the points. But she did get an advantage for it. She pulled guard again this time right into a triangle but she couldn't´t get it locked down and the girl tried to pass. Ok Guys you have to remember Im having a shit fit!!! on the side lines because I know Sheena can beat this chick.
So I really don't remember but the girl is up by two advantages and there's like a minute left in her match. They both were standing at this point and SCREAMING ``you need a takedown`` What does she do? she pulls guard into a arm lock, HOLY FUCK!!!!! Im yelling
PULL IT!!, ARCH YOUR HIPS, FuCK BReak it LOL!!!!! Time runs out and she loses by points. MAN Oh MAn, my voice has been fucked ever since, lol.
OH just an update on the Copa Do Mundo, I was told I was fighting a semi when it was a quarter. Me not able to understand 90 % of the time sucks but I had a great time. So only one Medal so far!!!!!
So yesterday I fought in the Absoluto and shit the bed. I have been playing this game of playing the clock and it screwed me in this match. The guy jumped guard on me and opened it and stared to pass. I ended up in the half mount but the guy had really good hips. So I managed to get to the North South and tried to dig in but the guy was flexible and brought his legs over my head. I think i w2as trying to stand he followed my up and scored a take down
. So I have him locked in my guard and with thirty seconds left I attacked the Kimura where I had it locked but the time ran out.
I will be fighting my weight today and fuck it Im going for the kill today. My arms have been giving out on me so fast for some reason but fuck it I want to tape someone for once. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok later, Ill tell you later how it goes.
Ok Guys I've been super slacking on the updates. This past week has sucked big time because last friday was basically the last time I trained. On Saturday night I started to come down with something. It started with just a sore throat and progressed to a full out bed ridden four days.
I never came out of my apartment until Wednesday. I had this crazy ass fever, I literally had to freeze a towel and lay it across my body along with cold showers just to brake it. Man it was Crazy!!!! So this all happen the week of the Copa do Mundo ( World Cup ).
So Wednesday I finally go down to the Gym and try to sweat it out. Rolled with about fours guys and that was it still felt like shit and my energy was gone. But it made be feel a little better but still not feeling good enough to be fighting in a World Championships.
So weight division is on Thursday and the absolute is on Friday. It turns out there is only one guy in my division and he's from Canada. (WTF!!!) LOL!!! So myself, Chris Brown and Eduardo catch a bus to Nitrio for basically a super fight.
The fight went well, Eduardo asked me if I knew what I was going to do and I told him pull guard and sweep him. So right of the hope we fought for our grips until I got the one that I wanted. Pulled butterfly and swept him to the half mount position. By the way this is one of Marcus Soares´s guys from Vancouver.
So I felt very good in this position until I started to pass. He caught my foot going through and rolled me. Fuck!!! that pissed me off. So the fight went back to standing and I was going to try the same thing but it just end up with me pulling guard. The score was even with 2 - 2 and me with the advantage so I played the clock and won.
Marcus Soares, Benito Sergura, AJ and Eduardo
Friday I would fight the Absolute. This time it would me just me and my home boy Chris Brown. We walked in the place just as the were calling my division. Perfect timing because in Canada we call it Indian time well here they have Brazilian time. And when they say 3pm the mean 6, lol.
My first fight was tough, pretty solid looking dude all tatted up and Fucking strong. This fight started out with again fighting for our grips. He ended up pulling guard on me but I didn't´t let him close it. From there I was pass and talk about really making a guard pass clear and having clear side control. Because it seemed like it took for ever for the ref to give me the 2 points.
From there the I would pin the guy for quite some time until he rolled me. But you don't get points for rolling a guy from the side. So I put him in my guard and kept him there. I tried and nice reverse arm lock that pissed him off and a cross choke that left him bleeding.
So my first match was in the bag but let me tell you. I have never had the lactic acid built up in my arms where I couldn't´t move the mother fuckers.
My Second match would be against a guy that my fellow Canadian Benito lost to. This fight was good!!! this guy chased me around for awhile with him pulling guard and trying to sweep a couple of times. I think this put him up my a couple advantages and me down one for running I think. That score board is still a little shady to me. But my corner Chris was yelling that I thirty seconds left and I had to do something. I was in the half guard position so I went for it. I got a Nice Sweep!!! right into the mount position. The guy would put me in his guard that t I backed ot of and ran the clock.
Ok this now puts me in the semi finals. THese guys don't give you anytime for a break, I problay at the most had 5 minutes. My arms by this time I cant feel because they are totally burnt out!!!!!! At one point I had the guy in Nice Kimura from the halfguard but I had nothing in my arms to put him away. This fight sucked but it was still good. I ended up loosing it to a take down. Its hard to come back when your down because they know how to use the clock well. So it was my under standing that I took Bronze but for some reason they don't have my name down as the Bronze Medalists so I have to get it looked into. So I should be bring home two World Cup Medals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sheena will be coming from Itacare to Rio for the Mundial next week. I took this off a website Sheena sent me, shes been hitting the waves!!!!
Former student and EasyDrop 'mascot' joins the gang!
Friendly to all at EasyDrop and Itacaré (seriously!), Sheena, a Canadian who´s craving to become a local, has started working at the EasyDrop Bar-Café this month. In 2003, she came to Itacaré to do a surf course right here at EasyDrop, where she was supposed to stay only a week, but "after 4 days, I realized I had to stay longer", and ended up spending 3 weeks! She was back in 2004 for a two-week surf course and once again, ended up staying longer, only this time for a whole month. And in August 2005, she came to improve her surfing and decided to stay for good in town!

Typical "Cheers" smile, as always!![]()
A Physics, Chemistry and Science teacher in Canada for the last five years, Sheena was always psyched in sports and competitions. Back home, she ran in the school´s athletic team and later on even became coach to the runners. On her first EasyDrop surf course, Zuqueto (sports addict as everyone knows!) introduced her to Jiu-jistu, which she instantly fell in love with. She loved it so much, she hasn´t been able to stop practising ever since, and is now a blue belt, having also participated in three competitions already, taking silver in Ilhéus in February 2006, and silver and gold in Canada in April of this year.

"Radical!"![]()
She´s enjoying being part of the team and loves serving people all sorts of goodies, and has even brought in several new suggestions for the menu. It started out with a scrumptious brownie, which already has had improvements to the recipe, with a touch of cashews; american pancakes with apple and brown sugar (check-out the mouth-watering picture), or banana and honey, and even a zesty 'capeta' drink which can knock down anyone who´s not careful off of their feet! She also promises healthy snacks for those that are not so brave!

Man I´m already slacking on this whole documentation thing already. But Man after these training sessions Im to dam tired to post anything.
I think over the last few days Im starting to adjust to the heat and the no air circulation. I did a little bit of taping of the training today so I will have some footage when I get back. Tonight I trained with this really good brown belt that kicked my ass good.
HE kept telling me to come on lets go and I was like fuck what the hell do think Im doing. lol. He kept telling me not to stop just keep going. His pace was non stop which made me tired after two minutes. But it was great training because I fight on thursday I don´t fell there yet.
Ok this is all I got for now.
tchau,
Ok the New School is turning out to be to good. Today I was to meet my amigo Luiz at the gym for Boxing class. It turned out the schedule was changed that day and wrestling was going on.
The new wrestling coach turns out to be Darrel Gholar. One of the top wrestling coaches that was brought to teach the top brazilian fighters.

So instead of jumping in and trying to do everything that the gym has to offer I just watched. He showed some good stuff and really stessed not falling into the regular Jiu Jitsu techniques. Well Im preety sure that's what he was trying to stress in the particular technique.
Now over on the other mat Jiu Jitsu was starting and the Black Belt Cepe calls to come over. The class was Huge!!! I would say there was 30 to 40 guys on the mat. There had to be at least ten blacks. So the Copa Do Mudo just next week the drills were crazy!!!!
I would say the various drills would last about 10 minutes. And I was so frick´n gassed that I thought I was really going to pass out from training. Never has the happen or ever felt this way. There were so many bodies sucking the oxygen out of the air it so hard to catch your breath.
When I was here last year I was here for three months so I had time to adjust before the hard training stared. And now Im jumping right into it which is really putting me to the test. I checked my weight today and Im 94kg and that's what I ave to be with the Gi on. But there is no way Im cutting any weight I need all the energy I can get. lol
Ok Im to tired to write anything else.
Tchau,

Heres a pic of this nasty ass armbar from 2004 Copa do Mundo

Last night was fun, even though Brazil was not in the finals the celebrations were still happening. Fireworks were going off in the background and people were freaking out. It was great!!!
I met one of my buddies in this out side like patio that had big screens and TV´s all over the place. The funny thing about the night was that I was getting teased by two Brazilians. One has an australian accent and the other british. This was weird!!!!
I said the game is going to a ``shoot OUt`` and they lost their minds and bugged me for the rest of the night. THey were like its true about canadians saying aboout.

Man it was pretty funny today chill´n on the beach. Seen some old school Gracie in action, lol. Couple of guys started something on the beach and a big crowd formed around them. Instantly had flashes of the Rickson Gracie´s fight on the beach in Gracie In Action I.
